Making candles better, description of candle making.

A: Our candles emit a noticeable aroma in your space, but it will not be as strong as a spray-type air freshener, or a candle made with petroleum-based wax (paraffin) or synthetic fragrances. As with most plant-based wax candles, the scent becomes most noticeable after burning for approx. 1 hour.  The longer the burn, the stronger the scent will become.  Never burn a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.

A: With each burn, be sure to let the wax melt completely to the edge of the jar before extinguishing.

A: It is very important to trim (cut) the wick before each lighting.  Like with most candles, cleanly and evenly cut the wick so only 1/4" of it is exposed above the surface of the wax.  This can be done with scissors, nail clippers, or a wick trimming tool.  Wait for a candle to completely cool before touching it to trim the wick.

A: Our candles burn steadily and cleanly when properly trimming the wick before each use and burned in a draft-free area.  Trim the wick to 1/4" prior to each light and burn only for the recommended amount of time.

Best stored at room
temperatures between 72°F-80°F/22°C-26°C and stored with the lid topper on top. Smells best when used within 12
months.

A: Carefully remove the wick stem with a wick trimmer tool or pliers.  Empty all remaining wax into your bin or compost, but never pour any wax down a drain as it will clog pipes.  Wash the jar with warm soapy water.  Do not put colored jars in a dishwasher.

A: Candle breakage or melting during shipping is a huge problem for many candle makers.  We have carefully selected renewable, compostable packaging material that will properly protect your candle during shipment or while on a shelf in a store.  While we use a bit of packaging material to keep your candle safe, it helps us to nearly eliminate breakage and significantly reduce the overall amount of rubbish generated as a byproduct of our candles.

A: Yes, this is normal and desired.  Our wax formula does not include additives that many other candles use to provide a shiny top.  Our wax develops a flat, matte finish as it ages and will develop crystalline frosting.

A: Plant-based waxes expand and contract with changes in temperature.  What has likely happened is the candle got a chill making the wax shrink away from the side, creating what looks like a "wet spot" near the glass.  This is only cosmetic and does not affect the burn or quality of the candle.

A: You should never use the lid to extinguish a candle.  Instead, carefully use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the candle.

A: While the candle lid may seem to make an excellent coaster for the candle, do not put the lid under a burning candle as it may trap heat within the lid cavity and create a fire hazard.  Burn your candle only on a stable, heat resistant surface.

A: No, the high concentration of scent oil may irritate skin or cause a rash.  Always check with your dermatologist as to what is safe to use on your skin. Never eat candle wax.

A: Our reference to a clean burning candle is intended solely in reference to ASTM F2326 standards related to visible emissions of a burning candle. Our claim related to clean burning is not a reference to any chemical compounds, fumes, or anything else emitted from the candle nor resulting from exposure to candle emissions.

Compared to soy wax, our Artisan wax:

-Minimizes cauliflowering and cratering of candle tops common with soy waxes.

-Has superior jar adhesion, less wet-spotting, and reduced jar-side frosting.

-Leaves lesshang-up of unburned wax in the jar.

-Is meticulously cold-poured by hand one candle at a time. Our cold-pour technique enhances fragrance & burn performance.
