General FAQ
Our "clean burning" label is all about meeting the ASTM F2326 standards for minimal visible smoke when burning a candle.
It doesn't mean our candles don't have any fumes or other emissions - just that they meet strict guidelines for keeping smoke to a minimum.
Nature's mood swings! Our plant-based waxes may get a little moody with temperature changes, causing a 'wet spot' near the glass. But don't worry, it's just a cosmetic issue and won't impact the burn or quality of your candle. Keep burning and enjoy the natural fragrance!
Burn for long enough the first time: When lighting your candle for the first time, burn it until the wax has melted all the way to the sides of the jar. This creates a "memory pool" and will help prevent tunneling in future burns.
With each burn, be sure to let the wax melt completely to the edge of the jar before extinguishing.
Not to worry! This is actually a good thing. Our candles are made with a special wax formula that doesn't include any additives to make it look shiny.
As the candle ages, the wax will develop a matte finish and even some crystalline frosting. It's all part of the natural and desired aging process of our candles.
It is very important to trim (cut) the wick before each lighting. Like with most candles, cleanly and evenly cut the wick so only 1/4" of it is exposed above the surface of the wax. This can be done with scissors, nail clippers, or a wick trimming tool.
Wait for a candle to completely cool before touching it to trim the wick.
This could be caused by a draft or a wick that is too long. Our candles burn steadily and cleanly when properly trimming the wick before each use and burned in a draft-free area.
Trim the wick to 1/4" prior to each light and burn only for the recommended amount of time.
Our candles love a room temperature between 72°F-80°F (22°C-26°C) and a snug lid to keep their fragrances fresh. For the best scent experience, use within 12 months.
Don't worry about your candle burning all the way down! Our candles are designed with safety in mind. We use a 20x6mm wick sustainer to make sure there's always a little bit of wax left at the bottom. This helps prevent a condition called "flash-over" and ensures a safer burn.
Once the flame goes out, you can easily remove the leftover wax, clean your candle jar, and reuse it for anything you like. Plus, our candles are sized based on their estimated burn time, not just the amount of wax, so you know you're getting a great value.
Ready to give your candle jar a new lease on life? No problem! Simply grab your trusty wick trimmer or pliers and carefully remove the wick stem.
After you've emptied all the remaining wax into your compost or trash bin, give the jar a gentle wash with warm soapy water. And don't forget, it's best to avoid putting colored jars in the dishwasher to keep them looking their best.
